I Masterbate In School

Ilse Werner, the leading lady of the dark years

Lovely leading lady of German cinema of the Third Reich, Ilse Werner personified optimism and spontaneity in this period more than troubled. With his songs and whistled his characters wise girls volunteers and energetic, the actress was a true symbol of balance and tenacity, which boosts the morale of the troops as families. Actress gifted youthful charm to clear the passage Ilse Werner shone in two or three excellent films and film historian Ado Kyrou, author of Love, eroticism and film, was full of praise about it.

Fort curiously at this time of heightened xenophobia, almost all female stars of German cinema were foreign. Born in 1921 in Jakarta, Ilse Werner was even a grandmother whose Chinese She had inherited her beautiful eyes ama nd. Returned to Austria with his parents, wealthy merchants in the export of tea and rice, the young girl of 15 began to study acting with Max Reinhardt, before performing at the Salzburg Festival. Very noticeable in his first appearance on stage, Ilse was immediately engaged in a filmed operetta "Smiles of Vienna, which will be the last production before the Austrian annexation of the country by German troops.
Two proposals are then available to the adolescent. The UFA, the German studio nationalized by the Nazis and MGM, the prestigious Hollywood studios are interested in the promising Ilse. Very pragmatically, in order to monitor her daughter, still a minor, the father of actress opt for Berlin studio ...
The new darling connects the romantic comedies with evocative titles "Awakening", "Miss", which optimism is required. No way to waive the rule: the film "life be so beautiful was" reminiscent innocently material concerns a young couple
(Ilse Werner and Rudi Godden) who is afraid of commitment will simply banned by the censor. The Concert of Hope (1940) is however strongly recommended by the scheme: a propaganda film but a little, which Goebbels worked closely where Ilse Werner stars as a young girl loved by two German soldiers participating in a radio show for soldiers. Ilse Werner later claimed to have been forced to play in the film for fear of reprisals. In all cases, participation in this film (which won a huge commercial success: 26 million viewers) earned him big problems after war, as bootewestwärts U (1941) another propaganda film (but good, this one ) whose action is set in a submarine.

. Ilse sings or whistles rather few tunes with a talent for sure. If his voice is not melodious, it has in hand a curious ease to the whistle, which she will long his specialty (as Micheline Dax in France). In all cases, it will be doubled for any good biography of Jenny Lind the Swedish Nightingale, the latest film by Joachim Gottschack (who represents Anderson). Persecuted by the Nazis as a Jewish woman married to the actor committed suicide shortly after the shooting. The musical
Music Alive (1942) the general director Helmut Kautner is a much better movie, a show intelligent where the artist is conspicuous by its beauty. Regrettably, however, poverty and choreographed musical numbers even though the song s excellent, will be among the biggest hits of Ilse. In 1943, Ilse participates Adventures of Baron Munschausen, amazing fantasy movie, great visual quality. Resplendent in Technicolor, Ilse fascinated by her beauty. Over the years, the young girl grew into a sensitive and expressive actress of rare magnetism. She has probably never been better than in La Paloma, wonderful film Kautner on sentimental delusions of a sailor. Free of propaganda This intimate film of great visual beauty and a very touching melancholy poetry is probably one of the finest films of this dark period. Deemed too depressing and too realistic by Nazi authorities, this masterpiece will be allowed only after the war and projected on screens. This is obviously the film I would advise any film buff looking to explore the German star.
At the end of the war, Ilse Werner, which is blamed his participation in two propaganda films mentioned above will be banned by the Allies stage, like his colleagues Sybille Schmitz Söderbaum or Kristina. A reprimand and a hiatus in which his film career never recovered. In 1948, the actress wife she follows an American journalist in California. After her divorce, she attempted a comeback to the screen, but films that are offered luis paled next to the Paloma or Munshausen. Mysterious depths, yet signed Pabst, offers some splendid views of caves and speleothems. Ilse y box whistled a few songs that have nothing to do with the plot; Queen of Night (1951) is an operetta winded where the star is even doubled for singing, for Anchen von Tharau, this is a small Heimatfilm black and white, as he swarmed to the time: even the mysterious charm of the actress seems to have vanished completely a few years. To survive, he is still singing, and some discs (though hardly noteworthy) to nest in the charts. The actress will perform on stage as King and I: a role made for her, especially the air "I whistle a merry tune," which is timely.
In the 80 and 90, we see her again sporadically on television, in soap police, variety shows and even occasionally on the big screen as for "Hallo sisters, disappointing comedy on the whims of two old stars trying their return to television.
Note that the Scorpions so popular in the 80 use some of the star like whistling intro to his biggest hit "wind of hope". A quiet reverence of the younger generation to an artist who 50 years ago so embodied youth.
Ilse Werner died in his retirement home in 2005.
