Nymans's Garden was created in 1890 by Ludwig Messel lives and spend several generations master gardeners. His son, Colonel Leonard Messel (d. 1953) and "head gardener" James Comber introduced many new varieties in the 1930s. Many hybrids and selections made at Plant Nymans gave exceptional rewarded by the RHS Award of Merit (Leonard Messel Magnolia x loebneri, Rhododendron Anne Messel ...).
In 1947 the castle was destroyed by fire, but the ruins preserved and maintained giving the garden a romantic feel very special.
